What does MNLa stand for?

MNLa is the acronym for "made in Louisiana". MNLA Originals was born in 2014 out of the idea that there should be an opportunity in the world of handcrafted jewelry to create wearable art that would embrace the love of all things Louisiana. Whenever possible, the copper used is from actual homes and buildings from South Louisiana. Along with copper, jewelry is crafted from silver and brass. All of it is created by Christy Barrett sometimes in her Baton Rouge studio, other times on site at shows.

A little about Christy...

Born and raised in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Christy clings tightly to her Southern roots. Crafting mixed metal jewelry came out of a suggestion from a former boss. The suggestion was for her to take a leisure class in textured metals at a local college. From the first class where she was introduced to hammering and the wonders of a torch, Christy knew she had found her creative passion. Six years and four classes from the same instructor later, Christy works full time at handcrafting textured mixed metal designs and learning new techniques to add to her unique line of jewelry. No two pieces will ever be exactly alike as each one is handcrafted.
